Rainy, chilly, all you want to do is curl up on the couch. It's that kind of day.
This weekend I went to a wedding in Indiana with my parents, sister, brother-in-law and brother. It was reasonably fun - kind of nice to get away. And it's always nice to watch weddings. The groom was the son of one of my mom's cousins (she comes from a really big family), and the bride was a really cute girl who seems sweet... they appear to be really good for each other.
Anyway, it's kind of yucky out. Finally I am feeling almost completely better, thanks to delightfully effective allergy medicines. Woohoo for those.
Today I've just been chilling out with the Times and having some coffee. I don't feel like leaving the couch anytime soon.

On Friday I went to this Women in Journalism conference at my school. Laurie Pike, the fashion editor for Los Angeles magazine, was one of the speakers. I found her really inspiring. She gave a talk about her career and answered lots of questions - most of which were from me! - on Thursday, and then on Friday she was part of a panel discussion. I recorded it and am planning to make it a podcast. (I'll break it into pieces, though, because it's almost two hours long.) I also got to have a brief one-one-one with her and ask some questions, and get some tips. I told her I wanted to branch out from photography into design - specifically, page design for a magazine. She was very candid with me, which I always appreciate. She just said, point blank, "If you want to design, you have to show that you can design. Build an amazing website." And I thought, Fuck, I don't have any idea how to do that. Which is kind of a problem.
So I think, this summer, I am going to make it my mission to learn CSS and learn as much as possible about InDesign. Wish me luck.
