Well, the main news today is that I am utterly devastated: I have finished reading Barbara Walters' book, and I'm just not done with it.

Alas, the library needs it back tomorrow; many other patrons are waiting to read it themselves, which is only fair. I just wish I could reread the entire thing.

Barbara Walters' career, encapsulated in this wonderful book, is a masterpiece to behold. It is absolutely amazing what she has gone through to accomplish everything she did -- and with such grace, such remarkable poise. I'm afraid, in reading this book, that I've made a mistake I often make with books I like: I read too fast, not absorbing enough for it to really stick in my mind. So stupid. It was just so easy to read, so conversational. Every chapter slid so nicely into the next. After a while, I began to be less annoyed when she skipped around chronologically: I could see why. She had to tell each story on its own, whether it be about one of her marriages, her parents and/or sister, or the scintillating flow of her career.

Anyway, I highly recommend this work if you're at all interested in her, or more generally interested in the history of TV journalism as it has changed in the last 50 years, especially for women. I know there are new memoirs coming out all the time, but this one is worthy of your attention. Walters' life is now an open book.
