I am getting really excited about a trip I'm taking to New York next week. So far, this year really hasn't been able to stack up to last year in terms of travel, so I can't wait for my little solo getaway. A friend of mine lives in Brooklyn and has graciously offered me the use of her couch. Also, I'm fortunate enough to have a couple of lunch dates with some people in the publishing industry (Fred is one), which will be really interesting. I'm even doing Sunday brunch at Mesa Grill, Bobby Flay's restaurant!
Another thing that really excites me is a ticket to see La Traviata at the Metropolitan Opera! I got one of the "partial view" balcony seats for less than $20. Even if I can't see the entire stage, that's a heck of a deal! I still have to figure out what to wear. It's undoubtedly going to be chilly in the city, and my goal is to not check any baggage - I've had too many bad experiences in New York with luggage getting lost. So I'm really going to have to get creative regarding wardrobe.
Anyway...I'm planning to shoot film, but I may also take my digital SLR. It's extremely heavy, though. I kind of like the old-school unpredictability of film - the not knowing how the photos will turn out until long after I take them - but on the other hand, film/processing is an additional expense. But I think it'll be worth it.
